beauty by other names

Beauty means different things to different people and yet its societal definition remains discriminatory. For this reason, some people don’t feel beautiful based on the personal definitions of their circle of friends and relatives. There is a wrong assumption that you have to look a certain way, have a certain complexion, come from a particular community or race to be considered beautiful.

Today, many teens are not proud of who they are. They loathe themselves and their bodies because they don’t fit into the “beautiful” bracket. Other people’s definition of beauty overpowers them and they succumb to it. They are afraid to go out and/or socialise or have healthy relationships with other people because they don’t feel like they are beautiful or worthy.

You don’t belong there though, your world is much bigger than what people tell you, your world knows you as beautiful and deserving of greatness and good things, but this only becomes true when you choose to look at things from a positive point of view.

Self-acceptance means having self-respect. It also means having a positive self-image and unconditional love for you. It is amazing how your life gets better when you start to love yourself more each day. You feel better and your relationships either improve, or the negative one’s end as you begin new ones.

Always remember that you don’t have to be light skinned or skinny or muscular or with big “assets” to be beautiful. Love yourself everyday with no expectations. Be incharge of your life, mind what you read, eat and even who you talk to. All these have an impact on your life.

Perfection is a myth. So do not be ashamed of your flaws. They are what make you human and beautiful. In fact, no one can use your flaws against you, once okay with who you are.

Like Steve Maraboli says; ‘Love yourself. Enough to take the actions required for your happiness. Enough to cut yourself loose from the drama-filled past. Enough to set a high standard for relationships. Enough to feed your mind and body in a healthy manner. Enough to forgive yourself. Enough to move on’

You are beautiful!!!
